ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SADAQA TRAIN
The word “sadaqa” is an Arabic word which means voluntary charity.
Sadaqa Train is an association of Muslim youth registered as a non-governmental organization with the Registrar General’s Department of Ghana.
Our main aim is to help the vulnerable, poor and needy people in our societies in the best way we can and also to bridge the gap of comfort and knowledge between the cities and the rural communities in Ghana.
To achieve this noble cause, we have endeavoured to visit many communities in all the regions of Ghana since our inception in August 2013 (Ramadan 1434).
THE "TRIPLE TRIPS" INITIATIVE
Praise be to Allah, we have three main "dawah/ charity-teams" handling the ten regions divided into sectors.
1: The Southern Sector takes care of visiting towns and villages in Greater Accra, Eastern, Western, Central and Southern Volta regions.
2: The Middle Sector handles Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Northern Volta regions.
3: The Northern Sector caters for towns and villages of the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions.
COORDINATION OF ACTIVITIES
The activities for the Southern Sector, which doubles as our Headquarters, are coordinated in Accra. Those for the Middle Sector are coordinated in Kumasi and then Tamale for the Northern Sector.
Each sector has a leader (ameer) in charge of coordinating activities in their territories. And all of them report to the Sadaqa Train Shuura Council.
FUNDING SOURCES
Our main source of funding has been through donations in both cash and kind by the general public. This is done through social media broadcasts/ campaigns and personal interactions.
Our other fundraising initiatives are: Sending proposals to individuals and organisations, Masjid and Market Storms [where we visit some selected masjids & markets to raise funds for our activities]. Your suggestions are also welcome.
TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY AND IMPACT ASSESSMENT
A way to manage reputational risk is through transparency to stakeholders. This is all so important, given that we have an increasingly discerning public who practice "Informed-Donation".
These sophisticated donors should know where donations are going, how the donations are being used and the impact that the donations make.
As a result of this, we endeavour to report back to donors, in writing and pictures, after our trips. Thus every sector has a secretary who is in charge of writing reports after our project, detailing how donations were used, the trip experiences, and recommendations/ suggestions for improvements.
Also, after every year, since 2015, we publish an annual report with details of all the trips our three sectors embarked on throughout the year across the country and our financial standing.
A DAWAH/ CHARITY EVENT EVERY QUARTER
All three sectors of Sadaqa Train undertake at least four trips in a year (at least one every quarter).
CHARITY
During each of our trips, we provide the locals with donations in both cash and kind (clothes, hijaabs, foodstuffs, stationery etc.)
DAWAH
We also share with them some Islamic literature, engage them in Dawah (lectures) relevant to their situation and try to find out how best we can make Islamic knowledge more accessible to them.
MEDICAL
Our medical team also provides free medical screening for the people and advise them on healthy lifestyles. The exercise usually entails health screening on: Hepatitis B, Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, Body Mass Index, Malaria etc.

We have more Sadaqa initiatives ongoing like... [The Zakaatul Fitr Project, The Blood Donation Project etc] and some coming up soon in-shaa Allah, like... [The borehole project, The Orphan Project, The Homeless Project, Etc] May Allah purify our hearts & facilitate khayr til Jannah.
