Sadaqa Train

Bismillaah, Alhamdulillaah. Wa sswalaatu wa ssalaam alaa rasuliLlaah. SwallaLlaahu alaihi wa sallam. Wa alã aalihi wa swahbihi wa man wãlãhu. On the ruling of zakaatul fitr, Ibn Baaz said, "Zakaatul fitr is obligatory upon every Muslim whether they be young or old, male or female, free or enslaved." Al-Fataawa: 14/197.

Brother Abass Laryea suggested that we help the Ghanaian ummah with the distribution of zakaatul fitr, hence the Zakaatul Fitr Made Easy project. Our task was threefold; collect cash, buy the food staple and distribute to the poor and needy.

So a few days to Eid we rolled out adverts entreating Muslims to send us an amount of 10ghc per person to fulfil their zakat obligation. Alhamdulillaah, we received about 2,000ghc through our campaign and bought more than a dozen 25 kilo bags of rice. Our team distributed them among the poor in and around Newtown, Achimota, Akweteman, Madina and Tantra hills. Aside from the rice, we added cash donations to some needy people as well.

WHAT NEXT?

After coming into contact with many needy people, our next project is to connect with trusted scholars to help many Muslims know, calculate and distribute the obligatory zakaat on their wealth in-shaa Allah.

May Allah help us to grow bigger and better and accept our humble efforts till Jannah al-Firdaus.
